Trail of the Ancients Mountain Bike Tour
Trail of the Ancients takes us through a remote section of the Abajo Mountains which lie to the south of Moab, UT. We’ll ride mountain bikes on rolling terrain through shady forests, lush meadows & classic desert canyons. Elevations range between 9000’- 5000’ above sea level. Our route is oriented from south to north and follows a mix of improved and unimproved four wheel drive roads with the option of exploring additional more challenging terrain.
This area marks the northern reaches of the Ancestral Puebloan cultures and is one of the most scenic and culturally rich places to spend a week. We’ll hike to an ancient ruin site tucked deep into the intricate canyon system radiating from the mountain range, and get to visit Newspaper Rock, a fascinating petroglyph panel in Indian Creek. Views stretch out for miles, and your days will be filled with “Photo Opportunities”! At our camps you can bask in the sunrise/sunset, perched on a rock outcropping with a horizon of undulating canyons; rugged, remote and beautiful!
This tour is suitable for beginning through intermediate riders who are in good physical condition and able to ride and hike for 5-7 hours a day. You can ride at your own speed, so more accomplished riders can push for a work out, and recreational riders can find a comfortable pace. 13-36 miles/day.
